I turn back the pages
And look to the past
It always amazes me
To see time move so fast

I look at who I was then
And who I am now
The difference between
Greatly increased somehow

I remember I cared
About what others would think
What would they say?
Either I'd rise or I'd sink

I've said it before
And I'll say it again
"Difference shouldn't end
Where it hoped to begin."

I've learned that people appreciate those who stand for what they believe
And ignore all the people who change to deceive

I learned you gain more respect if you be who you are
And that rejection will leave an emotional scar

Though the more scars you have
The more you will learn
That living by others
Will be the least of your concern

As we grow older
We realize it's lost
That we gave up our freedom
To such a lame cost

I wish I saw it sooner
Even though it's not that late
Confidence can help you control your own fate.
